MISSION
The mission of the Alliance for Rabies Control is to prevent human rabies deaths, especially in children, and to alleviate the burden of rabies in animal species. The Alliance's vision is a world where all countries have eliminated rabies.
Principles - We are committed to:
- Enabling those who are particularly at risk to protect themselves by promoting health education.
- Prevent human rabies deaths through preventative measures (focusing on mass vaccination of domestic dogs-the main source of human exposure across the world) and reactive measures (through prompt appropriate administration of human post-exposure prophylaxis - PEP).
- Raising awareness of this neglected disease to bring it to the attention of decision makers and the general public.
- Preventing rabies outbreaks in wild animal populations, particularly endangered species and to reduce livestock loses caused by rabies infection.
- Preventing animal suffering and improving community attitudes towards animals through responsible pet ownership.
- Promoting increased surveillance of rabies in human and animal populations: thus to provide more accurate estimates of disease burden and raise awareness of the disease problem.
- Optimizing the administration of vaccines and immunoglobulin in exposed patients.
- Evaluating the impact of disease control measures.
- Developing and working in partnership with groups who share similar goals.
