Partners

Rabies is a 'zoonotic' disease. Zoonotic diseases can cross between species (for example, from dog to human). Swine flu is another example of a zoonotic disease.

Zoonotic diseases have far-reaching consequences and to fight them, many different agencies need to work together.

Partners for Rabies Protection

GARC was instrumental in establishing and is a member of Partners for Rabies Prevention.

This informal group brings includes all the major international agencies involved in rabies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the WHO rabies collaborating centres, research scientists, representatives from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation , the UBS Optimus Foundation, and representatives from industry.

A major achievement of the PRP is the Blueprint for Rabies Prevention. This free information, written by world's foremost rabies experts, gives governing bodies worldwide a roadmap of the steps needed to reduce rabies in their area.
