Meet Betsy and Bing

Betsy and Bing in the Phillipines

These two women work on the frontline of rabies control in the Philippines. Bing is on the left, seated at her desk, and Betsy is on the right.

Betsy is the Asian Coordinator for GARC, and assists with the planning, implementation and management of its field project initiatives in Asia. When she came to work for us, she had recently retired as Head of the Veterinary Research Dept. of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Dept. of Health (Philippines).

Bing has been the Provincial Veterinarian since 1994 and is responsible for improving the livestock industry of the province, frontline animal health and veterinary public health.

In 2000, Betsy asked Bing to join her as co-proponent of a project to model the Bohol rabies control program and target for elimination. After several attempts with different agencies, GARC helped secure funding for a four-year comprehensive program that started in 2007.

"Bing and I work as a team, for the provincial program and with the support of GARC, striving to make a model for a sustainable disease intervention program, despite many resource constraints".
