Cristobal Rasonabe

GARC - Bohol project Phillipines award to Cristobal Rasonabe

Mr. Cristobal Rasonabe is a quietly spoken man but an impressive leader. He is shown in the centre of the picture, fifth from the left.

Mr. Rasonabe was chief of the village of Haguilanan for over nine years. Haguilanan is an average size village, with a population of 1174, which lies in the municipality of Catigbian, Bohol, Philippines. The people speak Visayan, Tagalog and English and are typically humble, thrifty, industrious and friendly. The main sources of income are farming, basket weaving, livestock, and small businesses.

During the GARC - Bohol project, and under the leadership of Mr. Rasonabe, Haguilanan had a complete dog population survey, where all households and dog owners were accounted for. The village had 90% dog registration and vaccination, and was able to control stray dogs without using dog catching. And, violators of the rabies control measures were called to account.

In all, Haguilanan was the best performing village in Bohol and received the award for best practices from governor of the province, Edgar M. Chatto.
